Steeped in time-honored tradition, for more than 75 years The Palmer House has been Chicago’s preeminent “home away from home” to countless dignitaries and world-famous celebrities. Located in the cultural heart of downtown Chicago, adjacent to Orchestra Hall and the Art Institute, the renowned hotel stands as a shining beacon of refinement and elegance.

During it's long hay-day from WWII through the 1960s, The Palmer House featured live musical entertainment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! Guests received a royal welcome as they entered the hotel’s gilded Grand Foyer and were greeted by the heavenly strains of

The Palmer House Ensemble performing a diverse repertoire that highlighted the hotel’s stylish old-world grace and charm.

The hotel’s famed Empire Room, unparalleled in its opulent grandeur, was ideally suited to stately functions like the 1980 reception honoring Pope John Paul II. Music in the Empire Room spotlighted Chicago’s premier dance orchestras who often featured elegant Strolling Strings popular for enhancing the ambience and engaging celebrants by playing requests on the spot.
